Purple Knight Weekly
August 29 - September 4
 Welcome Back!

Welcome Back! It is always a great day to be a Purple Knight.  This semester promises to be an exciting one for UB: a jam packed calendar of events, the return of Homecoming Weekend, a brand new turf for our Athletic teams, the opening of University Hall, and much more!

To our new students, welcome to the family! The University of Bridgeport is filled with faculty, staff and students committed to making your experience a great one.  Take advantage of the resources available to you, get involved on campus, and I guarantee you’ll find your home away from home.

To our returning students, welcome back! We are so excited to have you back on campus.  Your energy is palpable as we begin the semester.  Continue to be engaged in the campus community and making our University even greater each day.

Each Monday, you’ll receive this newsletter in your UB inbox.  It is filled with opportunities to attend events, athletic games, apply for scholarships, and to get connected with on campus resources.  Take time to read it each week to stay up to date!

If you have any questions about getting involved on campus or in the local community, please come visit the Office of Campus Activities and Civic Engagement, Room 231 in the Student Center or email us at campusactivities@bridgeport.edu.

Welcome Purple Knights! The Student Programming Board is excited to kick off the 2016-2017 academic year with a fun filled calendar of events!  Our throwback Welcome Week will have you reminiscing about your childhood with games, food, laughs, and lots of fun.  We look forward to seeing you all there!

The new Academic Advising Centeris the home to students who are undecided on a major, transitioning between majors, or in pre-major programs. Four professional academic advisors primarily serve first year students, but are available to assist any undergraduate student at UB. The AAC helps students with exploring majors, selecting classes, developing strategies for academic success, getting involved in extracurricular experiences, and preparing for application to professional schools, and connecting students with resources and staff to help ensure a successful path to graduation. The AAC also started a new Peer Mentor program including five peer mentors who will meet with pre-major students regularly throughout the academic year to guide them in the completion of the Student Success Plan (SSP), and to foster close relationships with students in developing their personal, academic, social and cultural experiences at UB. The AAC also assists students in maintaining a good academic standing through the completion of an Academic Recovery Plan. In collaboration with several departments on campus, the AAC will provide a series of Student Success Workshops throughout the academic year to promote students’ personal and professional growth.
