Citizen Jane

The Citizen Jane Film Festival (Thurs. Oct. 12 and Sun. Oct. 15, 2-5:30pm both days, at Bridgeport's Bijou Theatre) features eight inspiring films, two walking tours, a bike tour, a reception and thoughtful conversation about how ordinary citizens can shape the future of our towns. Citizen Jane is a new documentary about activist Jane Jacobs, author of The Death and Life of Great American Cities (1961), an indictment of 1950s urban planning that argued for the value of the local neighborhood, and her fight with ruthless construction kingpin Robert Moses to save Greenwich Village. Thursday includes a conversation with Anthony Flint, author of Wrestling with Moses, a reception and walking tours. On Sunday, after a Citizen Jane Bike Tour (10:45am-1:20pm), a classic film about Norwalk’s development issues, Survival of a Small CIty, will be shown alongside a program of shorts (including an inspiring TED Talk by "social sculptor" Theaster Gates), a moderated discussion, and a reprise showing of Citizen Jane. Student Pass just $10 for both days. Tickets: bridgeportcitizenjane.eventbrite.com
